I Love This Time of Year
Filed Under Uncategorized | one response
I love this time of year, when it’s just starting to feel a little like fall. It’s been really warm here the last couple days, but today’s a little cooler. The kids are back in school, the corn is tall, fall flowers are starting to bloom, I can go on and on.
There is not a lot to do in the garden this time of year, other than picking and harvesting, and reaping the rewards of what you’ve sewn. There’s nothing better than fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes and green beans for supper, all straight from the garden, YUM!
My tomatoes were going crazy for a few weeks, we had tomatoes every night for supper, I gave some away and froze some (for chili later this fall). Now we’ve had quite a bit of rain, and my tomatoes are splitting and rotting before they’re ripe. Uck! I hope they get over that soon. I’ve still been finding enough good ones to eat, but I would love to freeze more for soups, and chili later this fall.

I got my act together to get dahlias going this year, and I’m always so happy in August and September when I do! I kinda miss living in Berkeley, CA where they’re usually perennial. My late summer garden is pretty good this year–we’ve had a lot of rain, and last year I put in things like Russian sage & echinacea to provide good color later in the season.
