I’ve heard of both clarified butter, and ghee quite a bit, but I’ve never tried making my own. I bought a herdshare to get raw grass fed dairy from a local farm, but since I seem to have issues with dairy I haven’t been to pick up any lately. Butter and dairy are not allowed on the Whole30 program, but ghee or clarified butter are. I was at our local farm store the other day so I decided to stop by and pick up some grass fed butter and give it a try.
I put the butter in a small saucepan and put it over medium heat. Once the butter was melted I skimmed off all the foamy stuff that came to the top. Then I strained it through cheesecloth into a pint jar and put a lid on it, super easy and quick!
If you let the butter cook a little longer and start to brown you have ghee. I didn’t get that courageous this time, maybe next time?
