There is something about an apple smoothie on a crips fall day that feels like a fresh start. It tastes bright and cozy at the same time, like a gentle nudge into a good day. This one is simple, creamy, and naturally sweet with real apples. This apple smoothie recipe is perfect for busy mornings, after school, or a quick afternoon pick me up. I love how clean it tastes with just a hint of spice, and you can adjust the sweetness to your own preference.

Apple smoothie recipe

Back from the orchard or farmer’s market with a full tote? This is an easy way to use a couple of apples right away. I’m a fan of the crisp, sweet varieties, but use what you have on hand. The blender does the work. You get a smooth, sippable drink that still tastes like apples, not a bunch of add ins. If you want to play with flavors, try a tiny pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla. If you’re looking for more yummy cozy fall sips, you might also like my Pumpkin Spice White Hot Chocolate or this creamy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie.

How to get the best texture

  • Blend liquids first, then add apples and any optional spices so everything pulls down into the blades.
  • For a colder, thicker smoothie, toss in a few ice cubes or chill the apples first.
  • If your apples are very tart, a small drizzle of honey or maple can balance the flavor. If they are naturally sweet, you may not need to add any extra sweetener.

Easy add ins that keep the flavor apple forward

  • Flaxseed meal or chia seeds for a little fiber and staying power.
  • A splash of vanilla for a bakery style vibe.
  • Non dairy milk works well. Oat milk makes it extra creamy while almond milk keeps it light.

Serving ideas

Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy right away. This smoothie pairs well with toast, a hard boiled egg, or a handful of nuts for a quick healthy breakfast. If you love apple treats, save my Apple Pie Ice Cream for dessert later this week, or try a savory twist with Apple Salsa for game night.

Make ahead and storage

Smoothies are best fresh, but you can refrigerate leftovers for a few hours and give it a quick shake before drinking. To speed up busy mornings, core and chop apples ahead, then store them in an airtight container with a little lemon water. Drain before blending. You can also portion dry add ins like flax or chia so they are ready to tip in.

Apple Smoothie FAQ

What apples work best?

Choose crisp, naturally sweet apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala. If you prefer a little tartness, Pink Lady is a nice balance.

Can I make it dairy free?

Yes. Oat milk makes it creamy and neutral. Almond milk keeps it light. Both blend smoothly with apples.

How do I add protein?

Add a spoon of almond butter or a scoop of unflavored or vanilla protein powder. Blend well so the texture stays silky.

Can I make it ahead?

It tastes best right after blending. For a short head start, prep apples the night before and store in lemon water. Drain before blending.
